You 2 YOUth - Council '07
This year for our Diocese Council, 6 of our youth headed to Corpus Christi, to participate in the frist ever U2 Eucharist and You 2 YOUth Work Day!
And boy did they work! Our kids and three adults, myself, Michelle Garza & Clinton Golson, went to Cliff Maus Village, a government-subsidized apartment complex that was founded and is supported by the Episcopal churches of Corpus Christi, for a work-day.
We started the day with some of the EYC from Del Rio, by pulling tiles out of a bedroom from an apartment that had been left in bad condition. To see this place where people had to live, was a wake up call for our everyone! After all the tiles had been cleared, we took it upon ourselves to pick-up trash, so with gloves and trashbags we tackled TONS of yard area in need of some clean-up. After a very hot lunch (and one lunch tragedy) our group went back to paint the apartment we were in during the morning. I think our group felt a sense of accomplishment by painting the apartment we had originally started it. And by our break, nearly an hour later, we had finished most of the painting!! Clean up was a breeze, and we ended the day with all the other youth in a prayer chain thanking God for what we had learned, the memories we had made, and the impact we had.
After such a job well done... we felt our kids deserved a treat... so we were off for Pier 99 and a little trip to the beach (pictures to follow)!!
It was a great weekend and an incredible event to be a part of as our youth stepped up and worked hard without any complaning and a smile every time you looked at them. Our youth did a great job!
